Pilates (pronounced pil-lar-tees) has existed since the early 1920’s, and is the work of Joseph Pilates, a German immigrant who settled in New York. Drawing on his background of yoga, gymnastics, boxing, circus performing and nursing, he developed a range of work on simple spring resistance-based apparatus.

CLINICAL PILATES
The CLINICAL PILATES approach has been developed by physiotherapists in Australia to objectively ‘cull’ the Pilates work down to the most effective components and organise the huge body of work into a more manageable program. The system has refined the original work to improve its safety and highlight its most effective components. Clinical Pilates uses equipment such as the reformer, trapeze and bio-feedback for rehabilitation, health and fitness. These sessions are one on one with a physiotherapist qualified in pilates training. The system starts with very balanced and supported positions, learning to activate the deep stabilising muscles of the spine to improve and control pelvic, scapular and spinal stability. The system progresses as the participant is able to do positions and movements requiring further control. This system allows careful consideration of injuries and medical conditions with the systematic adjustments preventing flare ups or further injury. One on one sessions can be booked any time. Independent sessions on the equipment can then be booked as needed. You can then either pay a gym membership or a daily fee of $15.00
CLASS DETAILS
We are running sets of 8 week courses. These courses will be held at Busselton Bodyworks Physiotherapy Onsite Gym.
To be able to book into this class you must pay the full 8 weeks, which may be claimed on your private health insurance dependent upon your level of cover. The receipt will be made available at the end of the course. Fees are based on per term not per class, and payment in full is due on or before the first day of your class. Please note it is not our policy to refund fees for missed classes as your class position is reserved for you for the term. Classes missed are taken as classes given. On request make up classes on alternate days in the same term may be available.
The class involves floor work, pilates ball work and specific stretches. The class size is kept small to allow accurate instruction and correction.
The beginner class is aimed at those wanting more spinal control, better posture, improved fitness and a flatter stomach.
People with pre-existing injuries are advised to have a one on one consultation prior to starting the classes. The cost of the consultation can be claimed back on your health insurance.
